17:01 < Arne_RIPENCC> Hi everyone, welcome to the Database Working Group session. I'm Arne from the RIPE NCC. If you have questions/comments for the presenter and want me to read it out, please state your name/affiliation and I'll go to the mic when questions are called for. Please note that all chat transcripts will be archived and made available to the public on https://ripe69.ripe.net/
17:02 < Arne_RIPENCC> Wilfried Woeber is now opening the Working Group session.
17:02 < gr0mit-AS198722> can we add a discussion on geo-ip using the RIPE database?
17:02 < gr0mit-AS198722> I'm a new LIR
17:03 < gr0mit-AS198722> and am really struggling to get my IP blocks recognised in UK by broadcasters, etc
17:04 < Arne_RIPENCC> Could you tell me your name and organisation, please?
17:04 < gr0mit-AS198722> Tim Robinson, TxRx Communications Ltd
17:05 < Arne_RIPENCC> Thank you, your discussion point is added to the agenda.
17:07 < gr0mit-AS198722> my issue is that I want to deploy the new block to customers, and there seems no sane way of getting all content providers updated with the correct country.
17:08 < Arne_RIPENCC> Thank you, I will read your comment out when the agenda point comes up.
17:10 < gr0mit-AS198722> and even DNS lookups from my DNS resolver on a new IP address return whacky A-records for content providers.
17:11 < gr0mit-AS198722> i.e. www.telegraph.co.uk resolves to akamai in USA if I dig from my new resolver. On my old block, it resolves to an A record in London.
17:13 < Arne_RIPENCC> Thank you Tim, I will read the situation and problems you are facing out when the Working Group starts the discussion about geolocation in the RIPE Database.
17:13 < gr0mit-AS198722> thanks. I think this problem will get worse as IP addresses get moved from one LIR to another, and one country to another.
