Session 1 - IANA Oversight Transition and Internet Governance

An interrogative session moderated by the RIPE NCC, and inviting comments and questions from the RIPE community.

Update on the IANA Stewardship Transition process [15 mins]
Chris Buckridge will provide a short update on the process and timeline as well as an update on progress in the other RIRs and other IANA stakeholder communities.
 
RIPE Community IANA Stewardship Proposal / IANA SLAs [15 mins]
Paul Rendek will lead a focused RIPE community discussion on the RIPE Community IANA Stewardship Proposal. He will present the main IANA SLAs for consideration and feedback. The Cooperation Working Group will be asked to support the selection of two community candidates to serve on the CRISP Team.

ICANN Accountability Process [15 mins]
Athina Fragkouli will provide an update on the ICANN Accountability Process and how the RIPE community can get involved.

Securing the Internet Post-Snowden
  • Securing hardware with Cryptech [15 mins]
    Perennial favorite Randy Bush provides an update on Cryptech: how is it going, and what does the project need from the technical community, from policymakers, from industry partners, and from supporters and advocates at large?
 
Measuring and Preserving Freedom of Expression Online
  • Technology, Policy, and the Need to Engage Local Communities [15 mins]
    Amelia Andersdotter, former member of the European Parliament, argues that technological solutions to secure human rights are not on their own sufficient. Better policy must be instantiated, and to do this local communities must be engaged and listened to.

  • What Does it Mean to be a Socially Responsible ISP? [15 mins]
    Sacha van Geffen of Dutch ISP Greenhost discusses their work with activist communities, their approach to privacy preservation, and making ecologically responsible choices.
 
  • ISP Interconnection and Consumer Internet Performance [15 mins]
    Collin Anderson, Independent researcher with UPenn and the Open Technology Institute, discusses his collaborative work using open data to measure the impact of ISP relationships on consumer Internet access.
